Helen and Edward Gorsuch Public Policy Forum on Public Education Funding in AK with Video

On Thursday, December 7th, ISER hosted a Helen and Edward Gorsuch Public Policy Forum titled "Public Education Funding in Alaska: What we know, what we don't and how other states do it". The event, moderated by Larry Persily, included presentations by ISER Director Diane Hirshberg, who briefly talked about the history of research on school funding issues in Alaska, Dr. Dayna DeFeo, director of the UAA Center for Alaska Education Policy Research, who talked about what Alaska currently invests ink-12 schooling, and Lawrence O. Picus, Professor of Education, Finance and Policy and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs at the USC Rossier School of Education, who described how other states apply adequacy models in their school funding schemes. The presentations were followed by a brief question and answer session with Dr. Picus, Dr. Hirshberg, and Dr. Matt Berman, Professor of Economics at ISER.
