Alexandra Edwards is a senior research professional and project manager with the Center for Behavioral Health Research and Services. She has masters’ degrees in anthropology and public health, both earned through the University of Alaska Anchorage and is currently working on her doctorate through the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. She joined CBHRS in 2008 as a research professional/project coordinator and has worked on a variety of evaluation, training, and implementation projects related to health behavior, community wellness, and health communication. She is experienced in survey development and deployment, evaluation methods, mixed methods research, and qualitative data collection and analysis. Her research interests include the relationship between health, disease and culture, culture-based perceptions of health and disease, and health communication.

Her current work includes:

  • Women’s Health Nurses and Midwives Collaborate for Alcohol-Free Pregnancy (WHNMCAP) (as project manager under Diane King): This project aims to increase awareness of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders and the promote evidence-based strategies to prevent alcohol-exposed pregnancies to advanced practice nurses, women’s health nurses, and midwives (visit tinyurl.com/askaboutalcohol);
  • State of Alaska Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program (COSSUP) Evaluation (as principal investigator): This project provides evaluation support to the State of Alaska for their COSSUP program.
  • Providence Family Medicine Residence Mental Behavioral Health Curriculum Evaluation (as co-investigator with Diane King): This project provides evaluation support to the Alaska Family Medicine Residency program for the implementation of their mental and behavioral health curriculum for family medicine residents.
  • Alaska Native Communities Advancing Vaccine Uptake (as a REAIM evaluator under Diane King): This is a multi-partner project led by Southcentral Foundation and seeks to increase vaccine uptake among AN/AI people in Alaska. 
  • Evaluation of Alaska’s PDO Initiative (as co-investigator with Katie Cueva): This project provides evaluation support to the State of Alaska for their prescription drug overdose prevention program.
