Alexandra Edwards, M.A., MPH
Biography
Alexandra Edwards is a senior research professional and project manager with the Center for Behavioral Health Research and Services. She has masters’ degrees in anthropology and public health, both earned through the University of Alaska Anchorage. Her research interests include the relationship between health, disease and culture, culture-based perceptions of health and disease, and health communication.
As of May 2024, she is working on the following projects:
- Women’s Health Nurses and Midwives Collaborate for Alcohol-Free Pregnancy (WHNMCAP) aims to increase awareness of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders and the promote evidence-based strategies to prevent alcohol-exposed pregnancies to advanced practice nurses, women’s health nurses, and midwives (visit tinyurl.com/askaboutalcohol);
- Expanding the Alaska Public Health Workforce (as co-investigator) seeks to (a) determine what works and does not work to help people with disabilities succeed in public health and health-related education programs that lead to employment in public health-related positions in Alaska, and (b) develop recommendations for improved pathways to public health/health education for people with disabilities in the state. This is part of a long-term effort to increase under-represented people such as people with disabilities in the health and public health workforce.
- Alaska Native Communities Advancing Vaccine Uptake is a multi-partner project led by Southcentral Foundation and seeks to increase COVID-19 vaccine uptake among ANAI people in Alaska.
