I have been researching social science and public policy issues at the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) since 1994. I retired from full-time employment in 2011 but still do occasional projects. I received my doctorate in economics from University of California Berkley in 1994. Prior to that I worked in Juneau as a public policy analyst from 1976 to 1985. My research interests have centered on human development and well-being in Arctic communities at the intersection between the traditional subsistence economy and large-scale resource development. Some recent research themes appear below. An emerging new interest of mine is cognitive development in adolescents and risky decision-making.
