The Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) faculty, including Brett Watson, Bob Loeffler, and Mary Kopriva, showcased their expertise as panelists at the Alaska Resource Development Council annual conference held in Anchorage on November 15-16, 2023.
The conference provided a platform for these ISER faculty members to delve into critical discussions surrounding responsible resource-based economic development, with a focus on how Alaska can lead the world in this area. The panels offered valuable insights into the sustainable growth and strategic utilization of the state’s abundant resources.
Dr Watson’s expertise on critical minerals was highlighted in a panel titled “Leading the Way: Alaska’s Mineral Potential.” While Dr Kopriva spoke about health and childcare as barriers to workforce development in a panel titled “Alaska’s Resources: Leading our Economy and Future Investment”, which prof Loeffler moderated.
ISER has consistently demonstrated its commitment to public engagement, with faculty members actively participating in events that contribute to informed public discourse. This event is just one example of how ISER remains at the forefront of discussions that shape the economic landscape of Alaska.
“I am pleased to see ISER researchers contributing to conversations around responsible resource development. Their participation in the Alaska Resource Development Council conference exemplifies ISER’s dedication to advancing knowledge that informs key public policy decisions around Alaska’s economy and communities,” said ISER Director, Diane Hirshberg.
ISER remains a beacon of research excellence, influencing policy and guiding economic development in Alaska. Our faculty members play a pivotal role in shaping the future of resource-based economic strategies in the state.
