The Institute of Social and Economic Research’s (ISER) Dr. Dayna DeFeo alongside ISER researcher, Trang Tran, and Associate Vice Provost for Workforce Development at the University of Alaska (UA) Statewide, Teri Cothren, presented at the 6th Annual AlaskaCAN! Conference in Anchorage last week. The theme of this year’s conference was Educational Equity with the focus to unite cross-sector professionals, including representatives from Alaska agencies, institutions, school districts, industries, businesses, and Alaska Native organizations, in addressing the issue as it concerns Alaska’s attainment goal of 65% by 2025.
DeFeo, Tran, and Cothren’s presentation reviewed policies, activities, and outcomes for dual enrollment programs at UA, as well as explored progress and opportunities for additional work around equity and access. Student service professionals from a range of Alaska postsecondary institutions, such as UAF, AVTEC, APU, and UAA, participated in discussion surrounding the presentation.
AlaskaCAN! hoped participant takeaways from the conference would include practical skills to overcome equity challenges, new and strengthened partnerships, lessons from stories of hardship and success, and identification of opportunities for program alignment.
